JUKE AND JIVE: JACK STEADMAN ALTERS COURSE
Jack Steadman of Bombay Bicycle Club has dropped the indie angst and turned his hand to sample-saluting trip-hop. Weirdly it kind of bangs. BJ The Chicago Kid lends a hand here on Angels/Your Love, his vocals giving you something to latch onto in a pleasantly unpredictable sonic journey of sample looping, jumping between lilting and stabbing horns, and kicks that propel the groove. What sounds like a choir of eerie-voiced children giving us their best haunting high-notes and a distinct sense of the funk Steadman's got in his bones, make this a worthy listen. The first major release from Jack's new project, under the sobriquet Mr Jukes, comes with a free LSD trip in the form of this animated mind-fuck of a video. Ch-Ch-Check it.
